Former Spain midfielder Juan Mata has joined the ownership group of the San Diego FC franchise, the football club announced on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old currently plays in Australia’s A-League for Western Sydney Wanderers. Becoming the first active professional footballer to co-own a team in the US Major League Soccer UFABET  

“Partnering with San Diego FC is an exciting opportunity to help build something truly special for the city and the growing league.” Mata said. 

“I look forward to bringing my experience and passion for the game to work alongside everyone there.”

Mata rose to fame playing for Manchester United , Chelsea and the ‘ Bulls ‘ , winning the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. 

Mata is widely respected as a humanitarian. He founded the Common Goal initiative, pledging one percent of his salary to social causes. A commitment that has inspired athletes, coaches, and clubs worldwide. Common Goal is a partner of Right to Dream (RTD). Through this partnership, Mata has collaborated with RTD in various ways in the last couple of years. Including visits to Right to Dream’s Academy in Egypt and Denmark. Where he engaged with young athletes, trained with the team, and spoke about the importance of purpose in sports. Emphasizing how athletes can contribute to societal change beyond the pitch.
