Montel reveals Florentino’s positive words

Pachuca youngster Elias Montel has revealed he was delighted with the special words Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had spoken to him earlier.

Pachuca midfielder Elias Montel, 19, has revealed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has spoken positively about him in the past and plans to move to Europe in the future.

“It’s something I still don’t really understand, but yeah, it’s great to remember that. To be in the middle of a lot of people and to be in the final. We surprised a lot of people in that tournament,” Montel said of last year’s Intercontinental Cup.

The 19-year-old midfielder also revealed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had special words for him after the game: ‘Yes, after the trophy presentation ceremony and everything else. I came down from the podium and walked past where the leaders and dignitaries of Qatar were.’

‘As I walked past, I said hello to Florentino, but he stopped me because he shook my hand tightly. And I was very surprised. I didn’t know what to do.’

‘He told me he had spoken to a lot of friends about me. They had good things to say about me and he really liked the way I played.’

‘What they told him about me wasn’t a lie (smiles). He told me to keep going, to look forward and grow. I thank him.’

Montel also spoke about his idols and role models he admires in the world of football, saying: ‘I’ve always liked Iniesta a lot, the way he reads the game and his intelligence.’

‘And now Pedri and Vitinha are the ones that interest me the most. They are the ones who are trying to give me something from their football.’

The 19-year-old midfielder also spoke about the challenge of facing Real Madrid on Sunday, particularly against Los Blancos’ 39-year-old midfielder Luka Modric.

‘It’s very impressive to be around these players, they are legends of the world and it gives you a lot of inspiration, the players you saw when you were a kid on FIFA.’

When asked if he would move to Europe to show his abilities anytime soon, especially after the Los Blancos president spoke positively about him,

‘Yes, I have set a good goal. I want to make that dream come true. I don’t know if it will happen this summer or in the winter, but it is my goal.’
